What's Cooking? September 22, 2016
It’s been a while but we’ve been hard at work over the last few weeks to make sure that you all receive only the greatest content! Here’s a look at some of the amazing things we have done and some of the cool stuff yet to happen.
Bloxiq VR Launch
It’s finally happened! Bloxiq VR is now available on Steam for purchase. For those of you who have been following Bloxiq’s amazing journey to VR, this is the crowning moment! Bloxiq VR represents the combined efforts of an innovative developer, Blot Interactive, and ourselves a driven publisher, Red Meat Games. Bloxiq VR is not just pretty to play and great audio-wise, it is a solid puzzle game that actually challenges players to think and not simply rely on luck to be successful. The Blot Interactive team took the simple concept of colour matching and made it into an experience that is not just engaging but it is almost magical. With 100 levels to play, spanning 7 worlds and various puzzle mechanics to keep gameplay interesting, Bloxiq VR is one of the premium VR experiences on the market right now!
First Impact: Rise of a Hero
We attended both PAX West in Seattle and Fan Expo in Toronto and had a blast while doing. Attendees had the opportunity to try out our new build of First Impact: Rise of a Hero and from what players remarked, it sounds like everyone had a rocking time. Our CEO, Keith Makse, was also pretty busy with several interviews as well as being featured on the HTC Vive PAX West VR roundup. There is a lot in store for First Impact and we’re extremely pumped to continue development on this title. We recently revamped the website a bit to give it a fresher look and we will be making more and more changes as time passes on. Some of the feedback that we’d like to share though relates to things such as movement and art style.
Locomotion versus Teleportation
One of the biggest praises that we have received is the use of actual locomotion instead of teleportation. Since we are creating an open-world, action role-playing game then it is important that players feel a true sense of exploration that is uninhibited by predetermined movement. Flying is especially exciting because unlike the traditional method of using a controller to guide your avatar around, in VR the player can actually feel the sensation of flight. Many players loved flying high into the air and then free-falling in VR. The response has been overwhelming about how that feeling of vertigo is so exhilarating and how they can’t wait to experience it in their own homes.
Comic Book versus Hyper-realistic
Another area of kudos we received was going for a more comic book-like art style than trying to create a hyper-realistic world. We decided on doing that because we wanted to remind players of the good old days of curling up and reading stories about their favourite heroes and imagining what it was like to be them. In First Impact: Rise of a Hero we are hoping to transform players’ dreams into ‘reality’. The art style also helps to create a level of cognitive dissonance that helps with mitigating the effects of simulator sickness since your mind can accept that what you are seeing is not indeed real.
On Wednesday we shot our first episode of Butcher Block! In this week’s episode, we talked about the independent comic book called Mechanism and some of the cool elements of the first issue. We also went back to our Canadian roots and reviewed Civil War II Issue 5 with the handsome and intellectual, Justin Trudeau. It’s always interesting to see how Canada perceives conflict from more of a middle ground approach than to be polarized on one side or the other. Check it out and feel free to leave some comments on things that you’d like to see in future shows!
That’s it for this week, but you should probably check our social media channels for updates as we will be heading to London Comic Con this weekend! If you haven’t joined our mailing list, then I recommend that you get on that ASAP because you never know when we’ll be giving out discounts and prizes. For example, we gave out a free key to Portal 2 and Richard Conohan is one lucky and happy guy! Thanks for reading and remember…REDDDDD MEATTTT!
